Parent coordination requires twenty-eight (28) hours of specialized training and is requisite upon successfully completing mediation training.
Parent coordination is a means by which the families involved in Family Court can facilitate conflict resolution for divorced or divorcing parents through tailored interventions by a neutral third party.
The individual Parenting Coordinator is court appointed and generally has some limited decision-making authority whereas mediators do not. The Parent Coordinator can assist the individuals in conflict with formulating and enacting their Parenting Plan, provide education, make referrals and generally help with areas of conflict.
Research has shown Parent Coordination services reduce continued litigation. The Coordinator may be stipulated to by both parties or appointed by the judge.
