Melvin Pagán-González, Psy.D.

Dr. Pagán completed a post-doctoral residency at Emory University’s School of Medicine where he is specialized in forensic psychology. As part of the Psychiatry and Law Service, he provided forensic assessment, competency restoration services, and consultation services. He earned a doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Indiana State University and he completed his internship (forensic assessment track) with the Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, NC. He has experience providing therapy and psychological assessment for diverse clinical populations in correctional and community settings. He has presented at national conferences on topics related to language and culture responsive assessment. Before pursuing a career as a clinical psychologist, he was a social worker specializing in mitigation and competency restoration. Dr. Pagán has over 10 years of experience working with individuals dealing with severe mental illness, trauma, intellectual disabilities, and cognitive impairments. He provides services in English and Spanish and has developed and translated educational materials for competency restoration programs in both languages. He has provided training in suicide prevention, diversity and inclusion, and competency restoration.


Dr. Pagán primary specialty is forensic and psychological assessment. He has conducted forensic evaluations at the state (Georgia, North Carolina) and federal level. His specialties are competency to stand trial, competency restoration, criminal responsibility, violence risk assessment, malingering, pre-sentencing evaluations, and criminal mitigation. He has also conducted comprehensive psychological evaluations of individuals with complex clinical presentations to guide treatment, identify barriers to treatment, and address challenges with psychiatric medication.


Regarding therapy, Dr. Pagán, has provided cognitive-behaviorally oriented therapies for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, loneliness, anger management, and relationship difficulties. He also enjoys working with college students and young professionals going through major life transitions. His approach can help you develop strategies that allow you to address root causes, develop action plans, make meaningful connections, and find ways to live a more fulfilling life.
