Telepsychology
Telepsychology at Psychological Affiliates is designed for people who want high-quality psychological services delivered securely online. It is ideal for individuals, couples, families, attorneys, and organizations seeking expert psychological care without geographic limitations. Our licensed psychologists deliver therapy, evaluations, and consultations through HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms, allowing clients to receive high-quality psychological services from their home, workplace, or temporary location.
A key differentiator: our practice includes PSYPACT-authorized psychologists, meaning we can legally provide telepsychology services to clients who are physically located in PSYPACT-participating states, using the PSYPACT Commission’s Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) framework. This can be especially valuable for clients who travel, relocate, attend school out of state, or need continuity of care across state lines.
What Is Telepsychology?
Telepsychology refers to the delivery of psychological services using secure video conferencing and digital communication technologies. These services are governed by strict ethical, legal, and clinical standards established by state psychology boards and national professional organizations. All telepsychology services are provided in compliance with applicable state laws, professional guidelines, and jurisdictional requirements.

Who Is It Best For?
Telepsychology is often a strong fit for clients who want consistent access to care and a streamlined experience, including:
-
Adults needing ongoing therapy while balancing work, family, or travel
-
Clients who want privacy and convenience without commuting
-
Individuals who relocate but want continuity with the same provider
-
College students and young adults living out of state (when permitted)
-
Clients who prefer online sessions for scheduling or accessibility needs
If telepsychology is not clinically appropriate for your situation, we will recommend the safest path forward, which may include in-person care or referrals based on your location and needs.

Secure, Ethical, and Confidential Telehealth Care
Clients and referring professionals often choose Psychological Affiliates because we offer a more sophisticated licensed psychologist-led care unlike therapy apps which tend to use a more "generic" format. We use structured telehealth protocols aligned with professional guidelines and are a PSYPACT practice with APIT authorized providers when applicable.
When needed, we are able to provide clear documentation practices suitable for coordination with other professionals when authorized. All our telepsychology services are delivered through HIPAA-compliant platforms designed to protect confidentiality and data security. Client privacy, informed consent, and clinical appropriateness are evaluated before initiating telepsychology services.
What “PSYPACT-Authorized” Means for Clients
PSYPACT Telepsychology (APIT) | Interjurisdictional Online Care
PSYPACT (Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact) is an interstate compact that expands access to psychological services across state lines by creating a legal pathway for qualified psychologists to provide Telepsychology in PSYPACT participating states (via APIT), and Temporary in-person practice in participating states.
If you are located in a PSYPACT participating state at the time of your appointment, a PSYPACT-authorized psychologist may be able to provide telepsychology services legally without requiring separate licensure in every state, as long as PSYPACT rules are satisfied. This matters most when life moves faster than licensing:
-
You travel frequently and want uninterrupted care
-
You move for work, school, or family and want continuity
-
You split time between states seasonally
-
You have an established therapeutic relationship and need stability
PSYPACT currently reports 43 enacted and effective participating states and jurisdictions, and participation can change over time.

What We Provide
Telepsychology at Psychological Affiliates includes individual therapy grounded in established, evidence-based treatment models and tailored to the client’s presenting concerns, clinical history, and goals. Treatment is guided by ongoing assessment and professional judgment, not pre-set programs or scripted interventions. Telepsychology may be used for treatment of mood concerns, anxiety-related issues, trauma-related symptoms, adjustment difficulties, and other clinical presentations when remote care is clinically appropriate and permitted by jurisdictional rules.
Psychologists provide clinical consultations via telepsychology to assist clients, families, or referring professionals with diagnostic clarification, treatment planning, or care decision-making. These consultations may occur as part of ongoing treatment or as discrete services focused on understanding clinical needs, identifying appropriate interventions, and determining whether telepsychology, in-person services, or a combined approach is most appropriate.
When appropriate, telepsychology may be used for follow-up care after in-person therapy or evaluations. This can support continuity of care, progress monitoring, and ongoing therapeutic work without requiring unnecessary travel. Follow-up services are offered only when remote sessions meet clinical standards and do not compromise assessment validity, treatment integrity, or professional guidelines.
With proper authorization and valid releases of information, psychologists may use telepsychology to coordinate care with other professionals involved in a client’s treatment, such as physicians, psychiatrists, educators, or allied mental health providers. Care coordination is focused on improving continuity, aligning treatment goals, and supporting informed decision-making while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with applicable privacy laws.
Telepsychology may also be used for consultation with attorneys or other professionals when such consultation is clinically appropriate and properly authorized. These services are limited to matters related to ongoing clinical care, treatment clarification, or general professional input, and do not replace formal forensic evaluations unless explicitly contracted and jurisdictionally permitted.
What to Expect
Our simple, reassuring, and operationally clear process.
You will complete intake documentation and receive instructions for secure access to the telehealth session. We also confirm the state you will be located in at the time of the appointment, which is required for telehealth compliance.
Sessions are conducted similarly to in-office care, with attention to privacy, informed consent, clinical appropriateness, and documentation.Sessions are conducted similarly to in-office care, with attention to privacy, informed consent, clinical appropriateness, and documentation.
Telepsychology is not a substitute for emergency services. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent assistance, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. We also encourage clients to identify local crisis resources in their area as part of telehealth planning.
